TJC-Compliance

Ensure Compliance with TJC’s Medication Labeling
and Safety Standards

Overview

Codonics Safe Label System (SLS) ensures 100% compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) for medication labeling and safety. By completely eliminating handwritten labels, SLS provides healthcare teams with a reliable solution to meet TJC’s highest standards, improving patient safety and preventing errors in the perioperative and procedural settings.

Eliminate Handwritten Labels

SLS completely eliminates the need for handwritten medication labels, which are prone to errors such as legibility issues and missed information. On demand, SLS prints full-color, TJC-compliant labels that include essential medication details, such as drug name, concentration, expiration date/time, preparation date/time, preparer’s initials, and a barcode containing the NDC from the vial. This ensures compliance with TJC NPSG.03.04.01 and supports ISO 26825, ASTM 4774, and ASA guidelines, enhancing the accuracy and safety of medication labeling.

Meets ISMP 2025 Guideline 4.5: Label Practitioner-Prepared Syringes

In compliance with ISMP 2025 Guideline 4.5, SLS produces labels for practitioner-prepared syringes that include all required elements outlined by TJC, such as Tallman lettering, and goes beyond the basic color-coded drug class label requirement. This ensures each syringe is easy to read, fully compliant, and reduces the risk of medication errors.

Recognized as a “Best Practice” by The Joint Commission

Codonics Safe Label System has been recognized by The Joint Commission as a “Best Practice” for medication labeling. TJC acknowledges the importance of eliminating handwritten labels, and SLS provides hospitals with a proven solution to meet these critical safety standards.

Seamless Integration for Enhanced Compliance

SLS labels integrate with EHR/AIMS systems like as Epic and Cerner to ensure complete documentation at the point of administration. Additionally, SLS labels integrate with interoperable syringe pumps to reduce manual clicks and minimize the chance of human error, further enhancing safety and compliance.

Proven Results in Compliance and Safety

Safe Label System is a standard of care, used in the world’s leading hospitals, ensuring compliance with TJC recommendations and helping prevent medication errors in perioperative and procedural settings.
