Check Before You Inject
Overview
An additional safety check, Administer Mode allows a Safe Label System (SLS) user to “check before you inject” to confirm medication prior to administration to a patient. When a medication is being prepared, SLS audibly states and visually displays the drug name and concentration and immediately prints a ready-to-apply TJC and ASA compliant color label. Once that medication is prepared and labeled, the barcode on the SLS label enables a “triple check” using Administer Mode. When the clinician is ready to administer the medication, they simply scan the labeled medication and the SLS Point of Care Station (PCS) presents another audible and visual confirmation of the drug name and concentration, as well as displays the time remaining until the medication will expire.
Administer Mode greatly reduces the risk of syringe swaps, one of the three most common medication errors occurring in the operating room. With Administer Mode enabled, the Safe Label System fully meets the APSF recommendations to scan drugs before preparation and/or administration.
