Codonics recognized for its Advancements in Healthcare

On May 18, 2011 – More than 380 members and professionals of Northeast Ohio’s medical community gathered at the InterContinental Hotel, Cleveland, to celebrate the best of Northeast Ohio’s world-class medical community and leaders of corporate wellness. A combination of 24 companies and individuals were presented with awards for achievements, including Codonics. The company was honored in the category of Advancements in Healthcare by Crain’s Cleveland Business Health Care Heroes for the Safe Label System.

“Codonics is honored to be selected as a winner in the category of Advancements in Healthcare,” said Gary Enos, Vice President, Business and Technology Integration, Codonics. “The Safe Label System is all about improving patient safety through reduced medication errors. There’s no better place to be recognized for such a wonderful honor than our own backyard. Northeast Ohio is home to a remarkable medical community and is truly a premier destination for world-class healthcare. We are proud to make a difference to the region, the economy and to the patient’s safety.”

The Safe Label System is first in its class of advanced syringe labeling patient safety devices and cleared to market per 510(k) K101439 as a Class II device. The system ensures that syringe labels are fully compliant with the National Safety Patient Goals of The Joint Commission Standards and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Guidelines for medication labeling.

Founded on a Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) project (“SmartLabel System”) to improve the accuracy of anesthesthia and drug labeling inside the operating room environment, the Safe Label System innovation is a collaboration of doctors and medical professionals from MGH, and engineers and product managers at Codonics. Both teams have a proven track record of recognizing and solving unique medical challenges with MGH developing innovative solutions to improve patient safety, and Codonics providing expertise in designing custom medical devices that optimize healthcare provider performance while improving patient outcomes.
